US News and World Reports on Social Networking for Boomers
USNews.com: Money: MySpace for boomers
Excerpts:Now a new venture, Eons, aims to give baby boomers a place to gather online with other people in the same age group. Jeff Taylor, founder of the popular job website Monster, created this MySpace-like site with features specifically crafted for a 50-plus, Web-savvy user. In fact, you can't even log into the website unless you are over age 50.
The site hosts an age-relevant search engine called "cRANKy," which returns only the 4 "best" Web results per page for a given search, based not only on popularity like Yahoo! and Google, but on reviews by the Eons editorial team and member ratings.
When you're not searching the net, you can also search the nation's largest obituary database, post your own memories about loved ones, or have obituaries E-mailed to you as they become available for someone from your town, school, or military unit. A longevity calculator also helps you to better predict your own demise and gives you personalized advice about how to live longer.
Advertisers are poised to help Eons users meet their goals for the second half of their life.
"Through our partnership with Eons, Hyatt will connect with this travel-seeking generation to offer them the places and experiences of a lifetime," says Tom O'Toole, Hyatt's senior vice president of strategy and systems. The other Eons corporate founding partners, Harrah's Entertainment, Humana Inc., Liberty Mutual Group, and Verizon Wireless, are also eager to facilitate the consumer-driven content and create customized products and services such as travel opportunities and auto, home, and life insurance packages.
