Interview with Protest Chaplain, Marisa Egerstrom, Part I

|

Marisa Egerstrom, a The Protest Chaplain, is responsible for igniting discussion across the nation about the role of theology in the occupy movement. Her work within occupy includes organizing churches, and she once even delivered a sermon to an occupy church in an Anonymous mask.

Egerstrom is a PhD student in American Civilization at Harvard, where she studies American religious, intellectual and theological history.

Her interests pivot around how religion authorizes and sacralizes violence. Egerstrom is beginning her dissertation on religious subject formation and the construction of an "Islam" antithetical to "America" in Guantánamo Bay, which may become the first Harvard dissertation to cite WikiLeaks documents.

In this interview, Egerstrom talks about Occupy Wall Street, Occupy London, and her dissertation.
